Company Profile

Company Overview
MDU Resources is Building a Strong America®
A strong infrastructure is the heart of our economy. It is the natural gas and electricity that power business, industry and our daily lives. It is the pipes and wires that connect our homes, factories, offices and stores to bring them to life. It is the transportation network of roads, highways and airports that keeps our economy moving. Infrastructure is our business.
Our company was founded in 1924 as a small electric utility serving a handful of farm communities on the border of Montana and North Dakota. We realized early the value of delivering a variety of services, and grew our company by developing businesses around our expertise.
Our utility companies serve approximately 1.1 million customers across eight states. Cascade Natural Gas Corporation distributes natural gas in Oregon and Washington. Great Plains Natural Gas Co. distributes natural gas in western Minnesota and southeastern North Dakota. Intermountain Gas Company distributes natural gas in southern Idaho. Montana-Dakota Utilities Co. generates, transmits and distributes electricity and distributes natural gas in Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming. These operations also supply related value-added services.
MDU Resources is the largest publicly traded company headquartered in North Dakota. Our stock has traded since 1948 under the symbol MDU on the New York Stock Exchange. We have paid dividends uninterrupted to our shareholders for 82 years. We have increased dividends 29 consecutive years, a feat accomplished by fewer than 90 of the U.S.-listed companies. Our commitment to paying dividends is reflected in our membership in the S&P High-Yield Dividend Aristocrats index.
Company History
The Intermountain Gas Company story began in 1950 when Nat and Myrtis Campbell read a newspaper article that piqued their interest in the natural gas industry. The company was incorporated that year. After five years of hard work laying the foundation for a new public utility company, Intermountain Gas Company received certification from the Idaho Public Utilities Commission on December 10, 1955. Then, on December 31, 1955, we connected our first five customers.
Since then, Intermountain Gas Company has grown along with Idaho. Today, Intermountain Gas Company is a natural gas distribution company serving approximately 350,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers in 74 communities in southern Idaho. Intermountain is a subsidiary of MDU Resources Group, Inc., a multidimensional natural resources enterprise traded on the New York Stock Exchange as “MDU.” For more information about MDU Resources, visit the company’s website at www.mdu.com.
