The Southern Connecticut Gas Company (SCG) is a natural gas distribution company that delivers natural gas and energy services to residential, commercial and industrial customers along or near the Long Island Sound shoreline.
The company's service territory includes the Connecticut cities of Bridgeport and New Haven, as well as the towns of Easton, Fairfield, Stratford, Trumbull, Westport and Weston in Fairfield County; Branford, East Haven, Guilford, Hamden, Madison, Milford, North Branford, North Haven, Orange, West Haven and Woodbridge in New Haven County; and Clinton, Westbrook, Essex and Old Saybrook in Middlesex County.
Company History
Through its predecessor companies, New Haven Gas Light and Bridgeport Gas, Southern Connecticut Gas has served the shoreline region of southern Connecticut since 1847. The Bridgeport and New Haven-based predecessors merged in 1967 and were incorporated as Southern Connecticut Gas.
In 2010, SCG and its sister companies, Connecticut Natural Gas and Berkshire Gas of Massachusetts, became subsidiaries of UIL Holdings Corporation.
UIL Holdings merged in 2015 with the U.S. holdings of Iberdrola, S.A. to form AVANGRID, Inc. (NYSE: AGR), a diversified energy and utility company with two primary lines of business in 27 states.
