Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead large-scale, multi-million-dollar projects in the pharmaceutical and life sciences sectors. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical design, specifically HVAC and process systems, and will take ownership of overseeing design from SD to CD. The role will involve managing client relationships, collaborating with Architectural and Engineering (AE) firms, and ensuring that project budgets, scope, and timelines are met while maintaining the highest standards of quality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate the design process across Architectural, Structural, and MEP disciplines to ensure seamless integration of all systems.
- Serve as the principal liaison between Hodess engineering team, the client and A/E firms, ensuring alignment of goals, schedules, and deliverables.
- The ability to appropriately take conceptual design through construction, drawing development, economic & energy analysis, load calculations, design and layout of equipment, and duct/ piping systems.
- Collaborate with project managers, architects, and other engineering disciplines to ensure the timely and efficient integration of all systems into cleanroom projects.
- Ability to work with vendors and specify all HVAC equipment (air handlers, RTUs, MAUs, fans, reheats, condensing units, boilers, air cooled chillers, desiccant dehumidifiers) while supporting overall project schedule and budget.
- Manage the development and refinement of project designs, ensuring they meet all client requirements, codes, and regulations.
- Review and approve detailed MEP design drawings, specifications, and calculations to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance.
- Manage project budgets, tracking and reporting on design,
- Monitor scope changes and provide recommendations for adjustments as needed to ensure that costs and timelines remain within agreed parameters.
- Conduct value engineering exercises to optimize system performance while reducing costs without compromising quality or regulatory compliance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field (Master’s degree is a plus).
- Extensive experience (8+ years) in mechanical engineering design of HVAC/Mechanical solutions, MEP with a focus on construction projects.
- Proven track record of leading and managing large-scale projects (million-dollar+).
- Demonstrated experience in the pharmaceutical or life sciences sectors is highly preferred.
- Strong background in managing project budgets, scope, and client relationships.
- Expertise in HVAC system design, including clean room environments, temperature, and humidity control, air handling, and filtration systems.
- Knowledge of process systems design (such as chemical and fluid handling, compressed air systems, etc.).
- Experience with design software such as AutoCAD, Revit.
- Strong knowledge of building codes, regulations, and industry standards (ASHRAE, NFPA, etc.).
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work well under pressure, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
