Description

We are seeking a highly experienced consultant or subject matter expert (SME) to support the development of a new line of Navy-formulated marine coatings. This is not a full-time position, but rather a contract-based role focused on advising, planning, and executing key elements of the development and production setup.  The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge and thorough understanding of MIL-DTL and MIL-PRF specifications as well as other applicable real-world experience in successfully developing and launching similar products.

Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as a technical advisor for the formulation and production of Navy coatings.
• Guide equipment purchasing decisions and facility setup for coatings production.
• Review and advise on formulation strategies to ensure MIL-Spec compliance.
• Assist in identifying target customers and applications within the naval and defense markets.
• Support qualification testing, conformance testing, and regulatory documentation.
• Help define the scale-up process, raw material sourcing, and best practices for efficient production.
• Act as a liaison between our internal team and external partners to ensure technical and operational alignment.
• Contribute to market strategy and product positioning in the U.S. and European defense coatings market.

Requirements

• Extensive experience with MIL-Spec coating systems, particularly multi-component naval coatings.
• Strong understanding of the naval coatings supply chain, qualification process, and customer expectations.
• Demonstrated experience launching or advising on new coating lines or products.
• Ability to work independently and provide structured, actionable recommendations.
• Background in chemistry, chemical engineering, coatings technology, or a related field.
