Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering Search Plan for an Assistant Professor of Instruction or Assistant Instructor Position in Environmental Engineering
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is seeking a full-time Assistant Professor of Instruction or Assistant Instructor in the areas of Environmental and Water Resource Engineering. The selected candidate for the Assistant Professor of Instruction position is expected to have an earned doctoral degree from an accredited institution in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a closely related field. Candidates for the Assistant Instructor position must have a master’s degree, 5 years of professional experience, a Professional Engineering (PE) license and demonstration of effective teaching experience. Candidates must be qualified to teach core undergraduate courses that support the BS degrees in both Civil Engineering (BSCE) and Environmental Engineering (BSEV), such as Environmental Systems Engineering, Environmental Engineering Laboratory, Basic Fluid Mechanics, Hydraulics, and Hydraulics Laboratory. Candidates may also develop courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in the above areas. Additional responsibilities include participation in departmental, college, and university committees, assisting with ABET accreditation activities and assisting with student advising. Candidates who have a demonstrated interest in developing more effective Civil & Environmental Engineering programs are especially encouraged to apply.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate(s) are expected to start in Spring 2026 or Fall 2026. Candidates are also expected to have demonstrated leadership and communication skills, be able to work effectively with students and colleagues and be actively engaged in professional societies. Candidates with a PE license or who are Board Certified Environmental Engineers are especially encouraged to apply. Candidates must be committed to broadening participation among students, faculty, and staff.
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (http://www.usf.edu/engineering/cee/) has twentyfive (25) tenure-track/tenured faculty members, two (2) instructors, five (5) supporting faculty from the Center for Urban Transportation (CUTR) at USF, three (3) staff members, and offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees, serving nearly 250 undergraduates, 125 masters, and 70 PhD students. Our new and rapidly growing BSEV program was accredited by ABET in 2024. Our Environmental Engineering graduate program was ranked 48th nationally and 23rd among US public universities by US News & World Report (2023). The Civil Engineering graduate program is ranked in the top 70 nationally and top 50 among US public universities, by US News and World Report.
