Position Summary
The College of Enginering at the University of Georgia (UGA) invites applicants for a 9-month tenure-track assistant professor position within the School of Chemical, Materials, and Biomedical Engineering (CMB) to begin January 1, 2026. This position will be expected to perform a full time effort of 55% research, 40% instruction, and 5% service.
The development of next-generation biocompatible medical devices that resist clinical complications with thrombosis, infection, and immune response is critical to improving patient outcomes and long-term clinical performance. The College invites applications from outstanding candidates whose research integrates interdisciplinary approaches to address these challenges in cardiovascular biomaterials and related areas. We are especially interested in candidates whose work advances understanding of cell-material interactions, endothelialization, and thromboinflammation, and who apply this knowledge to the design of innovative medical device technologies. Areas of interest include anti-biofouling surface coatings, controlled drug delivery, biocompatibility testing, and immunomodulatory biomaterials.
The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate closely with the newly formed Biointerface Translation and Engineering Center (BTEC) within the UGA College of Engineering to accelerate the development of high-performance medical device technologies and systems to address unmet clinical needs.
The successful candidate is expected to:
(1) Establish an outstanding, internationally recognized research program
(2) Foster and establish collaborations and partnerships within and outside the College of Engineering, as well as industry,
(3) Exhibit a strong commitment to teaching excellence at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and
(4) Compete successfully for extramural funding to support research and a companion graduate and postdoctoral training program
Additional Requirements Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
The preferred candidate will hold a Ph.D. in an engineering discipline with interdisciplinary expertise in biomaterials, surface engineering, and translational medical device development. Competitive applicants will have a strong record of innovative research and advancing technologies toward clinical applications.
Candidates should demonstrate expertise in surface engineering, animal modeling, and translational research, with a strong interest in commercialization and technology transfer. Interdisciplinary approaches that integrate bioinspired design and bridge fundamental materials science with clinical application are especially encouraged.
